Ford F-150 Bed Rack — Modular Aluminum Overland Rack for F-150 (2009–2026)
We stand behind our products. Because of this, we now offer a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
Get that rig dialed in just right with the most modular Ford F-150 bed rack on the market today. Our XTR1 and XTR3 racks are built from the strongest, lightest, and most modular materials available — high-strength 15/10-Series T-slot aluminum with CNC billet machined parts, proudly made in the USA.
Why an F-150 Bed Rack? The Best Overland Upgrade for Ford's Best-Seller
An F-150 bed rack transforms your truck from a daily driver into a self-contained adventure platform — and does it without sacrificing the bed utility that makes the F-150 America's favorite truck.
With an Xtrusion Overland rack mounted, you can:
- Carry a rooftop tent — mount a Thule, Yakima, or any RTT compatible with T-slot extrusion and keep your bed completely free for gear, tools, or cargo
- Haul long items — kayaks, ladders, surfboards, lumber overhang the cab instead of hanging off the tailgate
- Mount recovery gear — traction boards, RotopaX, MaxTrax, Quick Fists, axes, shovels, winches on MOLLE plates bolted directly to the rack
- Add a roof rack system — our XBRS crossbar kit or full modular roof rack turns the F-150 into a two-level cargo platform
Bed racks are the ideal choice for weekend explorers, overlanders who still use their truck for work, anyone who values quick install-and-remove flexibility, and people who want open-air bed access without committing to a full topper.
The trade-off? Unlike an overland topper or fiberglass cap, gear on a bed rack is exposed to the elements unless covered. If you need fully enclosed, weather-sealed storage, consider our XO.SKLTN modular topper system — which pairs with the same rack architecture.
Choose Your Ford F-150 Bed Rack: XTR1 vs. XTR3
Every rack we build starts with our signature high-strength, lightweight 15/10-Series T-slot aluminum extrusion architecture. But which platform fits your build style?
The XTR1: The Streamlined Performer — Best for Overlanders Who Keep It Clean
The XTR1 is our classic, open-architecture bed rack — and the most popular option we offer. It features a clean 4-upright setup that maximizes bed access and keeps the overall weight low.
What's included with every XTR1:
- 2 crossbars
- 4 uprights
- 2 top braces
- 2 side braces
- 4 wide-wing bed rail brackets
- 4 top corner brackets
- All screws, T-nuts, and hardware required for assembly
- Set of XTR Off-Road Reinforcement Plates (black)
- XTR Grab Handle Kit (set of 4)
- Drop-in T-nuts, button head screws
Best for:
- Riders who want maximum strength without unnecessary weight
- Those who value a clean, minimalist aesthetic
- RTT-focused builds with the bed kept free
- Budget-conscious overlanders — the XTR1 is our most accessible entry point
Weight capacity (evenly distributed): 400 lbs dynamic off-road, 800 lbs dynamic on-road, and 1,500 lbs static — or OEM bed rail capacity, whichever is less.
Shop XTR1 for F-150 — from $1,649.99The XTR3: The Ultimate Mission Control — Best for Heavy Gear and Modular Builders
If your philosophy is a place for everything, and everything in its place, the XTR3 is built for you. It takes the XTR1 architecture and adds two additional center uprights — splitting the rack into four equal, independently adjustable quadrants.
What's included with every XTR3 (plus everything in the XTR1):
- 2 additional uprights (6 total)
- 4 side braces (instead of 2)
- 3 top crossbars (instead of 2)
- 4 top support braces
Best for:
- People who want to mount a rooftop tent, traction boards, and fuel cans on one side while keeping the other open for oversized cargo, pipe, or tools
- Heavy gear builds — the additional cross-bracing handles high-speed washboards and harsh technical trails seamlessly
- Maximum accessory mounting real estate — four independently adjustable side braces give you near-infinite placement options
- Off-road enthusiasts who need maximum structural rigidity
Weight capacity (evenly distributed): 450 lbs dynamic off-road, 850 lbs dynamic on-road, and 1,550 lbs static — or OEM bed rail capacity, whichever is less.
Shop XTR3 for F-150 — from $2,149.99| Feature | XTR1 | XTR3 |
|---|---|---|

Choose Your F-150 Bed Rack Height
Our racks come in multiple height options to fit your specific storage goals. Selecting a height profile dictates your center of gravity, aerodynamic drag, and how your gear clears the truck cab.
Low Profile — 11″ to 12″
Best for: Keeping a rooftop tent completely tucked below the cab roofline.
This is the lowest clearance option and keeps wind resistance and drag incredibly low. Ideal if you want a clean, unobtrusive look and primarily use the rack for accessories mounted on the sides rather than heavy cargo on top.
Aero / MPG impact: Minimal. The low profile preserves your F-150's fuel economy far better than taller setups.
Mid Height — 15″ to 19″
Best for: The sweet spot. Gear or RTT sits roughly flush with your cab roofline.
This is our most popular height for F-150 owners. It gives you enough clearance to mount an RTT while keeping the overall profile reasonable for parking garages, drive-throughs, and low-clearance obstacles.
Aero / MPG impact: Moderate. Minimal impact if running side MOLLE plates to fill the profile and reduce wind catch.
Full / Cab Height — 22″ to 24″
Best for: Hauling long items (kayaks, ladders, surfboards) that need to overhang the cab, or clearing a SoftTopper / FasTop enclosure.
This height gives you maximum vertical bed volume and is the go-to for overlanders running a soft topper — the extra clearance prevents the rack crossbars from binding on the canvas when you fold it down.
Pro tip: If you want to be able to collapse or fold your SoftTopper all the way down frequently, we highly recommend selecting our Full/Tall Height (24″) profile to give the folding mechanism the necessary physical clearance under the rack crossbars.
Aero / MPG impact: Higher. Adds standard wind resistance, but maximizes what you can haul and carry.
F-150 Tonneau Cover Compatibility — Which Rack Works With Your Cover
We pride ourselves on making our systems play nice with others, but F-150 bed configurations vary wildly depending on what's on your tailgate. Here is exactly how to pair an Xtrusion Overland rack with your specific cover.
Retrax XR / T-Slot Style Covers (Fully Compatible)
How it fits: We build specific variants designed to bolt straight into the integrated T-slot tracks of Retrax XR, Pace Edwards UltraGroove, and Roll-N-Lock rail systems. No drilling or clamping to the inner bed lip — the rack slides into the cover's tracks flawlessly and provides the most secure, vibration-free mount possible.
Compatible covers: Retrax XR Pro, Roll-N-Lock XT Series, Pace Edwards UltraGroove.
Shop Retrax XR builds →Standard Roll-Up or Fold-Up Tonneau Covers
How it fits: Standard inside-the-rail clamps or top-mount folding tonneau covers often conflict with traditional bed brackets. We provide a designated Tonneau Bracket Adapter (our "Wide Wing" bracket) that adds 1.65″ of clearance to clear most soft and roll-up tonneau covers.
Compatible covers: BakFlip, BakRevolver, Extang, TruXedo, Lomax, and similar roll-up or tri-fold designs.
Note: Tri-fold covers are compatible with the Wide Wing bracket, but cannot open fully due to the geometry of the rack. If you fold your cover all the way up daily, plan for ~2″ of restricted travel.
SoftTopper / FasTop Enclosures
How it fits: We offer custom SoftTopper-compatible versions of both the XTR1 and XTR3. These are engineered with wider, flared geometry to clear the canvas framework of a SoftTopper so the rack sits clean without binding or rubbing the material.
Important: If you're running a SoftTopper, order the dedicated SoftTopper-compatible build — not the standard version.
Compatible models: SoftTopper XTR1 F-150, SoftTopper XTR3 F-150.
Shop SoftTopper builds →OEM Bed Rail Utility Track
If your F-150 has the factory utility track system (available on certain trims and packages), we offer specialized track nuts that slide directly into the rails for a clean, no-drill installation.
XO.SKLTN — Go Fully Enclosed With a Modular Topper
If your overland style calls for weather-sealed, secure storage rather than an open rack, meet the XO.SKLTN — Xtrusion Overland's newest enclosed cargo system.
The XO.SKLTN is a modular topper built on the same T-slot aluminum extrusion architecture as our XTR1 and XTR3 racks. It gives you the security and weather protection of a traditional cap with the infinite configurability of an Xtrusion rack.
Key features:
- Available in Mid Height and Full Height configurations
- Fully modular — upgrade from mid to full height as your needs change
- T-slot channels throughout for accessory mounting (lights, shelves, dividers)
- Can be integrated with an RTT system
- Integrates with our gull-wing side panels and rear tailgate panels
- Lighter than fiberglass toppers while being stronger than steel
Best for: Overlanders who need locked, dry storage for sensitive gear, multi-day expeditions where weather protection matters, or anyone who wants the best of both worlds — a bed rack that can close up into a topper.
F-150 Bed Rack Weight & Load Capacity
Our aircraft-grade aluminum extrusion setups are incredibly lightweight but punch way up into heavy-duty performance territories on the trail. Here's what you're actually working with.
| Load Type | Weight Rating | Best Scenario |
|---|---|---|
| Static Capacity | Up to 1,500 lbs (XTR1) / 1,550 lbs (XTR3) | When parked. Safely supports the rack, your heavy rooftop tent, multiple adults, and all packed camp gear. |
| Dynamic On-Road | Up to 800 lbs (XTR1) / 850 lbs (XTR3) | While driving on paved surfaces. Handles normal highway physics, braking forces, and standard vibrations cleanly. |
| Dynamic Off-Road | Up to 400 lbs (XTR1) / 450 lbs (XTR3) | While navigating rough terrain, washboards, and technical trails. Always distribute heavy gear (fuel, water, batteries) low on the side brackets. |
Note: Ratings are evenly distributed and are subject to your OEM bed rail capacity. If your F-150's factory bed rails can't handle the full rated load, the lower rating applies.
Easy Driveway Installation — No Welding, No Drilling
We believe that building your dream rig should be as rewarding as driving it. If you can use a basic socket set and an Allen wrench, you can install an Xtrusion Overland Ford F-150 bed rack in an afternoon, right in your driveway.
Step 1: Assemble the Upright Hoops
Unbox your components onto a flat, clean surface. Slide the drop-in T-nuts into the main upright towers and bolt them to the heavy-duty corner gussets. Leave the fasteners finger-tight for micro-adjustments later.
Step 2: Connect the Lateral Crossbars
Position your front and rear hoops at roughly the length of your truck bed. Slide the necessary T-nuts into the horizontal side bars (or side plates if you chose the XTR3) and connect them to the hoops to tie the structure together.
Step 3: Prep the F-150 Bed Rails
If your truck has the factory utility track system, slide our specialized track nuts into the rails. If your truck has standard bed lips (the vast majority of F-150s), position our heavy-duty clamp mounts along the bed rail spaced evenly.
Step 4: Lift and Align
With the help of a friend, carefully lift the fully assembled aluminum framework onto your truck bed. Guide the feet of the upright towers directly onto the bed brackets or clamps and catch the threads of the bolts.
Step 5: Square, Level, and Final Torque
Use your tape measure to ensure the rack is perfectly centered on the truck bed and square from front to back. Once everything looks aligned, torque all fasteners down securely to specification.
Estimated install time: 1–2 hours with one helper.
The Xtrusion Overland Advantage — What Makes Our F-150 Bed Rack Different
T-Slot Extrusion on Every Surface
Every linear surface on our racks features a T-slot channel — the same channel our MOLLE panels bolt straight onto. This gives you near-infinite mounting points to attach gear anywhere along the rack, then reconfigure it in minutes as your needs change. Unlike welded steel racks with fixed accessory holes, your Xtrusion rack grows with you.
CNC Billet Machined Parts
Every corner bracket, grab handle, and mounting plate is precision CNC-machined from billet aluminum. No cheap stamped steel. No powder-coated tubing that rusts. This is aerospace-grade hardware made in Kansas, USA.
Highest Weight Capacity on the Market
With up to 1,550 lbs static load (XTR3), Xtrusion Overland delivers the highest weight capacity of any modular bed rack on the market. Period. Our 15/10-series extrusion architecture combined with reinforced corner gussets gives you structural rigidity that sheet metal and tube steel can't match.
Made in the USA
Xtrusion Overland is a family-owned business based in Kansas. Every rack is manufactured here using aluminum and stainless steel sourced from American suppliers. When you buy Xtrusion, you're not funding a massive overseas factory — you're supporting a real team that answers the phone at (316) 330-0024.
Modular, Not One-Time Purchase
Unlike a fixed steel rack where you're stuck with the accessories you bought with it, every Xtrusion rack is modular. Add MOLLE panels later. Swap crossbars for kayak mounts. Add a roof rack to the top. The system evolves with you.
Limited Lifetime Warranty
We stand behind our products with a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. No runaround. No "send us back in for evaluation." Real customer support you can call any time.
What Real F-150 Owners Are Saying
From F-150 forums and real owners:
"I've been running my Xtrusion on my 2022 F-150 Lariat with a Retrax XR for two years now. The T-slot integration into the cover rails is seamless — zero rattles, zero movement. Mounted my Thule Autoswap and it's been bulletproof through three cross-country trips."
— r/f150
"Tried a CBI rack first, went back to my XTR1 within a month. The Xtrusion fits so much cleaner and the modularity is a game-changer. Already added MOLLE plates for recovery gear and a Rotopax mount."
— f150forum.com
"If you're running a SoftTopper on your F-150 and want a bed rack, go with Xtrusion's soft topper build. The flared geometry is the only setup that doesn't rub the canvas when you fold it down. The wide brackets clear the cover too."

Frequently Asked Questions — F-150 Bed Rack
Why do you use 15/10-Series T-Slot Aluminum instead of welded steel?
Traditional tube-steel racks are heavy, they rust, and their accessory mounting points are fixed forever. Our 15/10-series T-slot aluminum extrusion is dramatically lighter while delivering equal or greater strength. The T-slot channel on every surface means you can mount, move, or remove accessories in seconds — not with a wrench and a welder.
Will I need to drill into my F-150 to install this rack?
No. Every F-150 bed rack we build installs using clamps that grip the existing bed rails, or slides directly into the factory utility track if your truck has it. No drilling, no permanent modification, no voiding your warranty.
How do I mount third-party accessories (RotopaX, MaxTrax, Quick Fists)?
Everywhere. The T-slot channels on every upright, crossbar, and side brace accept our MOLLE panels, pivot hinges, and specialty plates. You can also bolt gear directly into the T-slot using the included T-nuts and hardware.
Do these racks affect fuel efficiency (MPG)?
All added weight and height affect aerodynamics — that's physics. Our low profile (11″–12″) adds the least drag and is the best choice if MPG matters. Mid height has moderate impact. Full height has the most. In practice, most F-150 owners report a 1–3 MPG reduction with a full-height rack at highway speeds, which is far less than the impact of an overland topper.
Can I run a rooftop tent with an F-150 bed rack?
Absolutely. That's what we built these for. Our XTR1 and XTR3 racks are purpose-designed for RTT mounting. We include roof top tent brackets with every build. The 400–450 lb dynamic off-road rating easily handles the heaviest RTTs on the market.
What's the difference between the XTR1 and XTR3 for an F-150?
The XTR1 is our streamlined, 4-upright classic — the best balance of strength, weight, and value. The XTR3 adds two center uprights and splits the rack into four independently adjustable quadrants, giving you roughly double the accessory mounting space. Choose XTR3 if you plan to carry heavy, distributed gear or want maximum modularity. Choose XTR1 if you want the lightest rack with everything you need and nothing you don't.
Does the XTR1 / XTR3 work with my F-150 tonneau cover?
It depends on the cover. Retrax XR, Roll-N-Lock XT, and Pace Edwards UltraGroove — fully compatible, no adapters needed. Standard roll-up covers — compatible with our Wide Wing bracket. SoftTopper — dedicated SoftTopper-compatible builds available. Tri-fold — works but can't fully open due to rack geometry.
What if my F-150 has a specific bed length?
We offer builds for 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8-foot beds across all F-150 model years (2009–2026). Select your exact bed length during configuration to ensure proper fit.
Can I add accessories later?
That's the whole point. MOLLE panels, pivot hinges, RTT brackets, grab handles, Off-Road Reinforcement Plates, XBRS crossbars, awning mounts, ActionTrax plates — the list goes on. Every Xtrusion rack is a platform, not a finished product.
