Toyota Tacoma bed racks for overland or utility builds.
Four modular T-slot aluminum systems — XTR1, XTR3, XBRS and XO.SKLTN — plus the roof rack that pairs with them all.
Why the Tacoma is the ultimate overland platform
Ask anyone at a trailhead why they built their Tacoma overland rig and you'll hear the same answers: it's the mid-size truck that survives. Two decades of Tacoma generations have earned a reputation for mechanical reliability, legendary resale value, and an aftermarket deeper than any other truck in its class.
The 5-foot and 6-foot beds ship with a factory rail system our racks bolt straight into — no drilling, no welding. A Toyota Tacoma bed rack is usually the first structural upgrade in any build: it turns the bed into a gear garage, keeps weight low between the axles, and leaves the bed floor free.

Tacoma rack FAQ & specifications
How do I order the correct bed rack for my set up?
The first filters would be: Do I want entry level Bed Bars > XBRS listing - Do I want a Softopper Compatible Rack > Choose either XTR1 or XTR3 listing for Softopper. Do I have a Retrax XR Bed Cover > Chose either XTR1 or XTR3 listing for Retrax XR. Do I need a custom height dialed for my needs ? > Choose Custom Height XTR1 or XTR3 listing. (includes option for Retrax XR or Universal). Or would you rather go the easier route of exploring the popular builds compatible with most tonneau covers and bundled with the best features ? > XTR1 or XTR3 Popular Builds+ Molle listings is the way to go.
OR, check our new 3D Configurator to explore all the options!
For an enclosed topper and camper option, check the XO.SKLTN Topper Listing
What are the load ratings for each system?
XTR1: 400 lb dynamic / 1,200 lb static. XTR3 & XO.SKLTN: 450 lb dynamic off-road, 850 lb on-road, 1,550 lb static. Roof rack: 400 lb dynamic / 650 lb static. All ratings assume evenly distributed loads, limited by OEM bed rail capacity.
What heights can I get for my Tacoma?
XTR1: 10", 15", 21.5", 22" soft-top — or custom in 1" increments. XTR3: low, mid, full, soft-top + custom. XO.SKLTN: Mid 16" or Full 23". XBRS: 6" or 8" bars.
Do I need to drill into my Tacoma?
No. Racks bolt into the factory bed rail system or clamp to the inner bed lip. A socket set and Allen wrenches install it in an afternoon.
Will it work with my tonneau cover or soft topper?
Yes — dedicated Retrax XR, Softopper and T-slot cover compatible builds are available for XTR1 and XTR3, and the standard Wide Width bracket adds 1.65" of clearance for most roll-up covers. Some roll-up covers might need minor modification of the cover. Tri-Fold covers might be compatible to mount but the slats will not open fully. Diamond Back covers are not compatible at this time. Call our team for more info!
What's included, and what's the warranty?
All brackets, screws and hardware ship in the box. Everything is covered by a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. Typical lead times: XTR1/XTR3/XBRS 4–7 weeks; XO.SKLTN 6–12 weeks. Do not plan a trip based on an estimated lead time! But check with our team if an expedite is possible.
Can I just get the corner brackets, joints, bed rail brackets and components?
Unfortunately not. In order to be able to maintain our brand guarantees, we want our customers to use the main structural components using our proprietary profile. yes, it is compatible with other 15 series, but it is also reinforced for the off-road duties. Allowing our components to be paired with "unknown" t-slot profiles for the main structure puts your and ourselves at liabilities beyond our protection guarantees.
How long after I order will I receive the Xtrusion Products ?
Typical lead times: XTR1/XTR3/XBRS 4–7 weeks; XO.SKLTN 6–12 weeks. Roof Racks 1-4 Weeks. Do not plan a trip based on an estimated lead time! But check with our team if an expedite is possible.
Toyota Tacoma overland build — the complete guide.
From bed racks and water systems to power and recovery gear — everything you need to build the ultimate overland Tacoma.
How does Xtrusion Racks compare to the competitors ?The reasons why our racks are the best option in the market.
Xtrusion started as a solution for a bed rack that was more capable, stronger and durable than the plain bent sheet metal racks. The problem is those racks come loose, fatigue and break over time. Whether its steel, stainless or aluminum, bent sheet metal will not widthstand the fatigue of time vs a solid extrusion profile and billet CNC corner brackets.
In addition to the rigidity of the system, the T-Slot construction has mounting points on every linear surface, allowing it to be completely true modular, meaning you can attach anything to it, as long as it can be bolted. You can also extend the structures because we use T-Slot standard profile compatible with profiles like 80/20 Tnutz and others in the 15 series. This is our unique competitive advantage. It is like an erector set, but for overland / or utility builds.
Bed Racks: The FoundationPick the rack first — design everything else around it
Every overland Tacoma build starts in the bed. Xtrusion racks are bolted T-slot aluminum extrusion — no welds, no fixed hole patterns — so the rack you buy today reconfigures for the build you want next year.
Plan your build to growThis is the platform that allows you to pivot in your gear set up, but planning always helps reducing cost.
We can plan, we can research, we can try it. And your build might work according to plan and you'd be happy with the last rack you'd ever need. But things evolve, or sometimes don't work according to plan. Our systems are built exactly for this purpose. Alternate height kits allow you to change heights, reconfigure, add components, change trucks, etc. We promise this will be the last system you'd need to achieve cargo necessities. Don't settle for a rack that will only work with that truck or with that height. As they say buy once, cry once. Or reconfigure twice.
Complete Build PackagesTypical investment by build level
Installing a Tacoma Bed RackAn afternoon in the driveway — no welding, no drilling
Start with the rack, then plan systems around it. Its mounting points determine where the tent, lights and gear go.
Level and position the rack. Assemble finger-tight, set it on the bed rails, square it front to back before torquing.
Torque all bolts to spec. Overland gear vibrates — use thread-locker and re-check fasteners after the first trip.
Test-load before the trip. Mount your heaviest gear, check for flex, and distribute weight evenly.
Build Guide FAQThe questions every Tacoma builder asks
What is the best bed rack for a 3rd gen Tacoma?
For maximum gear-mounting real estate, the XTR3 with four independent side quadrants is the expedition choice. For a lighter build focused on a rooftop tent and clean bed access, the 4-upright XTR1 is ideal — and XBRS bed bars are the budget-friendly low-profile option.
How much does a full Tacoma overland build cost?
From roughly $2,500 for a basic weekend setup to $12,000+ for a fully equipped expedition rig. Start with the rack and expand as your trips get more ambitious.
What is the weight capacity of Tacoma bed racks?
XTR1: 400 lb dynamic / 1,200 lb static. XTR3 & XO.SKLTN: 450 lb off-road, 850 lb on-road, 1,550 lb static — always limited by OEM bed rail and payload capacity.
