Our posted lead times are only estimations and rely on various factors, many times outside of our control. Historic challenging times within our industry have caused ripples in the supply chain world that have repercussions even on the smallest of components at times. As you would imagine, many companies in our industry are experiencing the same.

Our bed racks are super cool, with the ability to be customized. But this causes a series of challenges due to the thousands of possible combinations regarding compatibility, availability, etc. However, we are constantly aiming at improving our processes, hiring and training our people to achieve a reliable fulfillment process.

If you have additional questions about our lead times, please check our current estimations and reach out to our team if you need additional information. We thank you for your continued support and patience as we improve our processes.

While we would do our best to accommodate a specific need, please do not plan any trips or outings based on the estimated lead times.

THIRD PARTY PRODUCTS

Xtrusion Overland started supplying various brands that go hand in hand with our own products, to provide a complete service and help us grow. This includes products that are drop shipped. Please be advised that availability and lead times of those product are solely impacted by the third-party vendor's schedule. Many products are sold under an open inventory method, as the technology to sync inventories is limited, therefore please reach out if a specific product is needed by a specific date for us to double check with the supplier for you!

Any potential delay that occurs in the sourcing, processing, or drop shipment at the third party level will be communicated to the best of our ability to the customer.

ESTIMATED DATE  |  LEAD TIMES

The estimated lead time provided when you placed your order is JUST AN ESTIMATE. It is not a guarantee that the product will be shipped on that date. The estimated lead time gives you some sense of what the current times to source, cut, pack and ship takes. Many times the lead time can be shorter, but likewise it can extend, depending on factors such as previous demand and current supply. We manufacture many components in house, but extenuating circumstances such as down time for maintenance or unscheduled downtimes for repairs might impact dates as well as delays related to our sourced components. There is a constant flow of parts and shipments, and sometimes the visibility becomes a challenge to pinpoint exactly when your product will ship.

Feel free to check on your order at any time. Be aware that our customer service team may not be able to give you an exact date for completion but rest assured we are tracking your order and it will be built in the order that it was received.

Xtrusion Overland also reserves the right to cancel items from an order, offer an alternative substitution or issue refund accordingly when product is delayed at an unacceptable time frame or at the request of the customer.

Rack Angle Guide

Overland Rack Angle Compatibility

One Angle.
Every Build.

XTR bed racks use three rack angles — 9°, 13°, and 20° — each matched to specific vehicle setups and accessory families. Find the right angle for your build so every rail, crossbar, and mounting kit lines up perfectly.

Engineered quality

CNC billet strength

We didn't just join the strong extrusions with some sheet metal corner brackets — we put the aluminum where it makes a difference. Every angle variant uses the same 6061-T6 Aerospace grade billet, machined to precision to join all components with exact angular alignment.

  • ✓ All three angles share the same billet standard
  • ✓ 9°, 13°, and 20° brackets machined to exact specs
  • ✓ No sheet metal corners — pure aerospace aluminum
CNC billet corner brackets for XTR bed racks — available in 9°, 13°, and 20° angles

Angle Compatibility

Rack Angle Product Line Compatible Accessories
9° Gladiator Series All Gladiator bed racks (XTR1, XTR3 and XBRS), Gladiator mounting kits, Gladiator-specific crossbars, including Softopper versions on Gladiator.
13° Soft Topper Series Soft Topper bed racks for all truck models (except Gladiator).
20° Universal / Crossbars All XTR1, XTR3, XBRS Bed Racks, universal mounting rails, standard rack accessories (except Gladiator or Softopper)
9-degree Gladiator rail crossbar — XTR Gladiator series rack angle
9° angle

Gladiator Series

The 9° angle is dedicated to the Gladiator product line. This angle was engineered specifically for Gladiator rails and their mounting geometry, ensuring a flush, secure connection between your rails and any Xtrusion add-on accessories. This includes Softopper Gladiator Builds and XBRS for Gladiator.

Xo Skeleton Note: The XO.SKLTN Uses a complete different system not to be confused with Gladiator XTR 9 Degree components.

13-degree Soft Topper rail crossbar — XTR Soft Topper series rack angle
13° angle

Soft Topper Series

The 13° angle serves Soft Topper products. This intermediate angle provides the right compromise between load clearance and low profile when mounting accessories to Soft Topper rails and their compatible hardware.

Crossbars: XTR1 and XTR3 use 13° when mounted on Soft Topper setups.

20-degree universal rack crossbar — XTR universal and crossbar series
20° angle

Universal / Crossbars

The 20° angle is the default for all other Xtrusion products — universal mounting rails, standard crossbars, and general overland rack accessories. This is the most common angle in the industry and works with the widest range of roof rack and truck bed rack systems.

XBRS: XBRS crossbars use 20° components, the same as XTR1 and XTR3, so the joints stay compatible if you upgrade to a full rack. The one exception is XBRS for the Jeep Gladiator, which uses 9°.

Quick Reference

Xo Skeleton — Angle Breakdown

The Xo Skeleton uses two angles Gladiator Specific or Universal. However, some accessories might be compatible with both, because the top rail consolidates both angles into one. Crossbar mounts or awning mounts are compatible with both versions.

9° Angle

XOSKLTN Gladiator
Xo Skeleton Gladiator 9-degree angle
  • Gladiator rail mounts
  • Gladiator-specific hardware
  • Gladiator crossbar slots

13° Angle

XOSKLTN
Xo Skeleton Soft Topper 13-degree angle
  • Soft Topper rail mounts
  • Soft Topper mounting kits
  • Soft Topper crossbar slots

Note: The Xo Skeleton never uses the 20° angle.

How To Choose

The Right Rack Angle,
Explained

Every XTR accessory — crossbars, mounting brackets, add-on hardware — is cut for one specific angle. The right angle depends on your primary rail system or vehicle setup. Choosing the matching angle ensures every component in your build aligns correctly and carries load as designed.

  • Identify your rail system. Gladiator = 9°, Soft Topper = 13°, universal = 20°.
  • Check your crossbar type. XTR1/XTR3 come in all three — order the one matching your rails.
  • Stick to one angle per build. Mixing angles creates misalignment and stress points.
What determines the rack angle I need? +
Your rack angle is determined by your primary rail system or vehicle setup. Gladiator rails use 9°, Soft Topper setups use 13°, and universal or standard rack accessories use 20°. Choosing the matching angle ensures every accessory — crossbars, mounting brackets, and add-ons — aligns correctly.
Can I use a 20° crossbar with a Gladiator rail? +
No. Gladiator rails are engineered for 9° accessories. Using a 20° crossbar on a Gladiator rail will result in misalignment and improper load transfer. Always match your crossbar angle to your rail system.
Do Soft Toppers and Gladiator rails use the same angle? +
No. Soft Toppers use a 13° angle while Gladiator rails use a 9° angle. These angles are not interchangeable. If you're building with both types, you'll need separate angle-specific accessory sets.
Are XTR1 and XTR3 crossbars angle-specific? +
XTR1 and XTR3 crossbars come in three angle variants — 9°, 13°, and 20° — to match each rack system. The 20° variant is the default and works with universal racks. The 13° variant is used when paired with Soft Topper setups. Order the angle that matches your primary rail system.
Why do overland racks use different angles? +
Different rack angles exist to accommodate varying vehicle roof geometries, rail profiles, and load requirements. The 9° angle works well with Gladiator-style tubular rails. The 13° angle provides a middle ground for Soft Topper mounting systems. The 20° angle is the industry standard for universal applications and offers maximum load clearance.

Description

Fits every Toyota Tacoma since 1995: 1st gen (1995–2004), 2nd gen (2005–2015), 3rd gen (2016–2023) and 4th gen (2024+), 5-ft or 6-ft bed. Designed and built in Wichita, Kansas.

This is our complete overland bed rack system for the Toyota Tacoma: the XTR3 rack with MOLLE panels, AXS side gates and slide-out trays matched to it, ordered as one Stage package. Choose it if you're building your Tacoma for overland travel and want our strongest bed rack with the gear-hauling accessories in a single order. Every XTR3 is built to order, to your height requirements, in T-slot profile construction, so every surface takes accessories and nothing needs drilling.

Want something lighter, or a rack for a Retrax XR cover or a soft topper? There's a Tacoma rack for each of those in the "Not the right Tacoma rack?" list at the bottom of this page.

BEFORE YOU ORDER: CHECK YOUR BED COVER

  • Open bed, or a soft or roll-up tonneau cover: you're in the right place. This rack mounts on our Wide Width bed rail bracket, which clears most soft and roll-up covers. Tri-fold covers fit but can't open fully under the rack.
  • Retrax XR cover: order the XTR3 Tacoma rack for Retrax XR covers, which bolts to the cover's T-slot rails.
  • Softopper, Fas-Top or Bestop soft topper: order the XTR3 Tacoma Soft Topper rack, whose uprights are angled to clear the fabric.
  • Roll-N-Lock XT, Pace Edwards UltraGroove or another cover with built-in T-slot rails: email [email protected] before you order and we'll confirm the right fit.

Why the XTR3 for an overland Tacoma

  • Three columns, four independent bays. Six uprights put a center column on each side, splitting the rack into four quadrants, each with its own adjustable side brace. Run a rooftop tent and traction boards over one bay, fuel and tools on another, and keep a bay open for long cargo.
  • Our highest load rating. 500 lb dynamic off-road, 850 lb dynamic on-road and 1,750 lb static, against 450 / 850 / 1,550 lb for the four-upright XTR1. That margin matters when a tent, two sleepers and a loaded gear wall all ride on the rack.
  • Accessories that arrive matched. MOLLE plates come sized to your height (12x9 on the 15" rack, 16x11 on the 21.5" rack) and slide-outs come cut to your rack length. Each Stage costs roughly $100–$250 less than buying the same parts separately.
  • Light for its strength. Black powder-coated aluminum T-slot extrusion in a 1.5" x 3.0" profile that won't rust like steel. The rack weighs about 80–110 lb, depending on height.

The trade-offs: the XTR3 costs and weighs more than the XTR1, and its center columns limit slide-out trays to half length (25" on the 5-ft bed rack, 29.5" on the 6-ft). If you want a full-length slide-out or the lowest price, the XTR1 Pre-configured Tacoma rack comes in the same heights and Stage packages on four uprights.

Choose your Stage

Stage Added to the rack Built for
1 Rack only Starting with a tent or cargo load and adding accessories as you go
2 8 MOLLE plates A gear wall on both sides for recovery boards, fuel, lights and tools
3a 8 MOLLE plates, 1 AXS gate, 1 slide-out Our most-ordered Tacoma package: a pop-up side gate for everyday access plus a sliding tray for heavy gear like Rotopax, propane or a recovery kit
3b 8 MOLLE plates, 2 AXS gates Reaching into the bed from the side when a tent or cargo covers the top
3c 8 MOLLE plates, 2 slide-outs Two trays for heavy or awkward gear you'd otherwise reach over the tailgate for

Photos may show accessories that are sold separately unless they're included in your Stage.

Choose your height

  • 15" mid height keeps a tent and cargo low, well under the Tacoma's cab roof, and takes the 12x9 MOLLE plates.
  • 21.5" cab height sits near the Tacoma's cab roof line, leaves the most room under the rack for tall cases and coolers, and takes the larger 16x11 plates.

Need a different height? The XTR3 Custom Height Tacoma rack builds anywhere from 10" to 26" in 1" steps.

Fitment by Tacoma generation

Pick your years and bed in the menu and the rack comes in the matching length. On 2005 and newer trucks, the 5-ft bed (about 60.5" of floor) takes a 53" rack and the 6-ft bed (about 73.5") takes a 62" rack. The 2024+ Tacoma kept both beds, so the same rack lengths carry over. First-generation trucks use them too: the 1995–2004 Double Cab bed is about 5 ft (61.5"), and the Regular Cab and Xtracab bed is about 6.2 ft (74.5").

Not sure which bed you have? Regular, Access and Xtracab Tacomas have the 6-ft bed, while Double Cabs (2005 and newer) came with either. Measure the floor from bulkhead to tailgate: around 60" is the 5-ft bed, around 73"–75" is the 6-ft.

What's in the box

Every Stage includes the XTR3 rack:

  • 3 top crossbars
  • 6 uprights (columns)
  • 4 top support braces and 4 side braces (1530, black)
  • 6 Wide Width bed rail brackets and 6 top corner brackets
  • All screws and hardware for assembly
  • Set of black XTR Off-Road Reinforcement Plates ($110 value)
  • Metal handle kit, set of 4 ($40 value)
  • 16 drop-in T-nuts, 5/16"-18 ($12 value)
  • 16 button head screws, 5/16"-18 x 5/8" ($8.80 value)

Stage 2 and up add 8 MOLLE plates (12x9 for 15", 16x11 for 21.5"). Stage 3a, 3b and 3c also add the AXS gate kits and half-length slide-out kits listed in the Stage table, sized to your rack.

Load rating

500 lb dynamic off-road, 850 lb dynamic on-road and 1,750 lb static, evenly distributed, or your Tacoma's bed rail rating, whichever is less. The rack's own weight counts against your truck's payload.

Toyota Tacoma XTR3 Bed Rack: FAQ

Should I get the XTR3 or the XTR1 for my Tacoma?

Get the XTR3 if you'll load the rack heavily, such as a tent plus a full gear wall on long off-road trips, or want four bays you can set up separately. Get the XTR1 if you want a lighter rack, the lower price or a full-length slide-out tray: it has four uprights, no center column, and a 450 / 850 / 1,550 lb rating. Both come in the same heights and Stage packages for the Tacoma.

Can I run a rooftop tent on it?

Yes. The XTR3 is rated 500 lb dynamic off-road and 1,750 lb static, evenly distributed, or your bed rails' rating if that's lower. Count the tent, the people sleeping in it and anything on the MOLLE plates. Mount the tent with our stainless Rooftop Tent Brackets. At 21.5" the tent sits near the cab roof line; at 15" it rides lower.

What does the AXS gate do, and do I need one?

The AXS gate turns a side brace into a gas-strut pop-up gate, so a loaded MOLLE plate swings up and you can reach into the bed from the side. It's worth it if a tent or cargo covers the top of the rack, or if you dig through the bed often. Stage 3a includes one; Stage 3b includes two.

Can I add the Stage accessories later?

Yes. Each one is sold on its own: the XTR AXS Gate Kit (choose XTR3), the XTR Slide Out Kit (choose Half Length and your 53" or 62" rack length) and MOLLE plates (Small 12x9 for the 15" rack, Large 16x11 for 21.5"). Ordering a Stage now costs less than adding the same parts later.

Can I change the rack's height later?

Yes. The XTR3 Alternate Height Kit for Tacoma replaces the 3 crossbars and 6 uprights at any height from 10" to 26", and you keep the rest of the rack. Choose your Tacoma's years and the Wide Width bracket when you order.

Will it fit a first-gen (1995–2004) Tacoma?

Yes. Choose 1995–2004 and your bed length in the menu. The Double Cab's 5-ft bed takes the 53" rack, and the Regular Cab and Xtracab 6.2-ft bed takes the 62" rack.

How does it install?

It bolts to your Tacoma's factory bed rails with the included brackets and hardware. No drilling. Watch the XTR3 install video or see our instructions page.

How does it ship?

The rack ships in 2–3 boxes.

Is it made in the USA?

Yes. It's designed and built in Wichita, Kansas.

What's the warranty?

Covered by our Lifetime Warranty.
