Parts for turning a 2022 or newer Ford Maverick into an overland camper, trail rig or work truck, gathered on one page: XTR racks and XBRS bars made in our Wichita shop, a tailgate work surface, tie-downs for the bed, and Maverick-specific mud flaps, wheel-well guards and dash mounts. Comparing racks by height, rating and price? Start with Ford Maverick bed racks.
An overland Maverick, piece by piece
-
The rack. An XTR1 or XTR3 at 13" or 15" is where most Maverick builds begin, carrying a rooftop tent, kayaks or lumber over the 4.5-ft bed. There are Retrax XR and soft topper versions of both, and Custom Height racks from 10" to 26". For something lower, XBRS bed bars sit 6" or 8" up and can be turned into an XTR1 later.
-
Camp on top. A tent fastens to the crossbars with our Rooftop Tent Brackets. Keeping the bed covered underneath? Pair the rack with a cover from Ford Maverick bed covers.
-
Tie it down. Charvonia's billet bed tie-downs come in pairs, in four powder-coat colors, with a center slot that keeps ratchet-strap hooks from popping out.
-
Work at the tailgate. The TrailGate Panel for the Maverick drops over the tailgate without tools and gives you a flat 1/8" aluminum surface for cooking, gear repairs or kneeling. It's made in the USA, starts at $259 and has an optional cup holder upgrade.
-
Add to the rack. MOLLE plates, AXS gates, slide-out trays, a recovery board mount and a Rotopax plate bolt into the T-slots, and the XTR Awning Upright Kit holds an awning on XTR1 and XTR3 racks. To change height later or go from four uprights to six, there's the Alternate Height and Conversion Kit for the Maverick.
Outside the bed
- Ark Splash Guards mud flaps and micro flares for 2022–2026 Mavericks, sold as front, rear or complete sets with your choice of logo color.
- Tackform's Slim Track, a dash-top track for phone and device mounts on 2022–2024 Mavericks that installs without drilling.
- Beyond Wraps hood stripes for 2022–2024 trucks and a tailgate stamp.
Maverick build questions
Open rack or a covered bed on a Maverick?
You can have both. An open rack carries the tent and long gear up top, and a Retrax XR or a soft topper keeps the bed below closed, each with its own rack version. If you're still weighing a rack against a shell, our comparison of bed racks, overland toppers and fiberglass toppers is a good place to start.
How much can a Maverick build carry?
Two numbers set the limit. The rack's rating limits the load on top (for an XTR1: 450 lb off-road, 850 lb on-road and 1,550 lb parked, spread evenly). The payload on the door-jamb sticker covers everything at once, from the rack and tent to the cooler, water, tools and everyone in the cab, and on a compact truck it fills up fast. Our overlanding payload guide walks through a real tally.
What should I buy first?
The rack at the height you'll actually use, since everything else mounts to it or works around it. Plates, gates, slide-outs and the tailgate panel can come later, and a Stage bundle on the pre-configured racks gets the first few in one order.
Can I lay out the build before ordering?
Yes. Put together the rack, plates, gates and trays in the 3D bed rack builder, then order from there. Before a first trip, run through our overlanding safety checklist.
XTR1 and XTR3 racks are designed and built in Wichita, Kansas, and carry our Lifetime Warranty. Planning a Maverick build? Call (316) 330-0024 or email support@xtrusion-overland.com.
