Fitment Guide
Fitment Guide
Choosing the right bed rack setup shouldn't feel like a guessing game. Because our racks are built using high-strength, military-grade T-slot aluminum extrusions, they are incredibly modular—but getting the exact fitment for your truck, tonneau cover, or tent matters. Use this authority guide to dial in your rig's specifications perfectly before you order.
1. Choose Your Height Profile
Our racks (like the popular XTR1 and XTR3 series) come in multiple height options to fit your specific storage goals. Selecting a height profile dictates your center of gravity, aerodynamic drag, and how your gear clears the truck cab.
| Height Profile | Best Used For | Aero / MPG Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Low Profile (11"–12") | Keeping a Rooftop Tent (RTT) completely tucked below the cab roofline. | Minimal. Keeps wind resistance and drag incredibly low. |
| Mid Height (15"–19") | The sweet spot. Gear or RTT sits roughly flush with your cab roofline. | Moderate. Minimal impact if running side MOLLE plates. |
| Full / Cab Height (22"–24") | Hauling long items (kayaks, ladders, surfboards) that need to overhang the cab, or clearing soft toppers. | Higher. Adds standard wind resistance, but maximizes vertical bed volume. |
2. Tonneau Cover & Soft Topper Compatibility
We pride ourselves on making our systems play nice with others, but truck bed configurations vary wildly. Here is exactly how to pair an Xtrusion Overland rack with a bed cover:
Retrax XR / T-Slot Style Covers (Fully Compatible)
How it fits: We build specific variants designed to bolt straight into the integrated T-slot tracks of Retrax XR, Pace Edwards UltraGroove, and Roll-N-Lock rail systems. No drilling or clamping to the inner bed lip—the rack slides into the cover's tracks flawlessly.
Standard Roll-Up or Fold-Up Tonneau Covers
How it fits: Standard inside-the-rail clamps or top-mount folding tonneau covers often conflict with traditional bed brackets. Please select our designated Tonneau Bracket Adapter option during configuration to allow the rack feet to clear your side rails cleanly.
SoftTopper / FasTop Enclosures
How it fits: We offer custom Soft Topper Compatible versions of the XTR1 and XTR3. These are engineered with wider, flared geometry to clear the canvas framework of a SoftTopper.
3. Weight & Load Capacity Ratings
Our aircraft-grade aluminum extrusion setups are incredibly lightweight but punch way up into heavy-duty performance territories on the trail.
| Load Type | Weight Rating | Scenario Best Description |
|---|---|---|
| Static Capacity | Up to 1,500 lbs | When parked. Safely supports the rack, your heavy rooftop tent, multiple adults, and all packed camp gear. |
| Dynamic On-Road Capacity | Up to 800 lbs | While driving on paved surfaces. Handles normal highway physics, braking forces, and standard vibrations cleanly. |
| Dynamic Off-Road Capacity | Up to 400 lbs | While navigating rough terrain, washboards, and technical trails. Sustained high-impact forces reduce your safe threshold. Always distribute heavy gear (like fuel/water) low on the side brackets. |
4. The Custom Lineup: The Streamlined XTR1 vs. The Ultimate XTR3
Every rack we build starts with our signature high-strength, lightweight 15/10-Series T-slot aluminum extrusion architecture. But how you choose to mount, configure, and access your gear determines which platform fits your build style best.
The XTR1: The Streamlined Performer
The XTR1 is our classic, open-architecture bed rack. Designed for the overlander who wants maximum strength without unnecessary weight or complexity, it offers a clean, ultra-functional aesthetic.
- Maximized Bed Access: Clean 4-upright setup makes reaching over the bed rails completely unobstructed.
- The Perfect RTT Foundation: Engineered to carry heavy loads while keeping the bed below free.
- Lightweight & Efficient: Keeps gross vehicle weight low and center of gravity right where it belongs.
The XTR3: The Ultimate Mission Control
If your philosophy is a place for everything, and everything in its place, the XTR3 expands your mounting real estate by splitting the side profiles into four distinct, independent quadrants.
- Infinite Accessory Real Estate: Run independent, adjustable side braces vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.
- No-Drill Gear Walls: Mount traction boards, RotopaX, axes, shovels, and recovery gear on the outside safely.
- Maximum Structural Rigidity: Additional cross-bracing handles high-speed washboards and harsh technical trails seamlessly.
5. Easy Driveway Installation Steps
We believe that building your dream rig should be as rewarding as driving it. There is no welding required and no complex fabrication. If you can use a basic socket set and an Allen wrench, you can install an Xtrusion Overland rack in an afternoon right in your driveway.
-
1
Assemble the Upright Hoops
Unbox your components onto a flat, clean surface. Slide the drop-in T-nuts into the main upright towers and bolt them to the heavy-duty corner gussets. Leave the fasteners finger-tight for micro-adjustments later.
-
2
Connect the Lateral Crossbars
Position your front and rear hoops at roughly the length of your truck bed. Slide the necessary T-nuts into the horizontal side bars (or side plates if you chose the XTR3) and connect them to the hoops to tie the structure together.
-
3
Prep the Vehicle Rails
If your truck has a factory utility track system, slide our specialized track nuts into the rails. If your truck has standard bed lips, position our heavy-duty clamp mounts along the bed rail spaced out evenly.
-
4
Lift and Align the Rack
With the help of a friend, carefully lift the fully assembled aluminum framework onto your truck bed. Guide the feet of the upright towers directly onto the bed brackets or clamps and catch the threads of the bolts.
-
5
Square, Level, and Final Torque
Use your tape measure to ensure the rack is perfectly centered on the truck bed and square from front to back. Once everything looks aligned, torque all fasteners down securely to specification.
6. Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you use 15 or 10-Series T-Slot Aluminum instead of welded steel?
Welded steel racks lock you into a heavy, unchangeable box the day they leave a shop. We build exclusively with heavy-duty 15/10-Series T-slot aluminum extrusions because off-roading demands both brute strength and absolute modular flexibility. Our aircraft-grade aluminum profile delivers an incredible strength-to-weight ratio that saves up to 40-50% of the weight of steel—preserving your truck's payload capacity, suspension components, and fuel mileage. Furthermore, aluminum is naturally 100% rustproof. If you scratch the powder coat on a branch, it will never turn into structural rust. The integrated T-slot channels turn your rack into an infinite grid, letting you slide, bolt, and adjust accessories anywhere as your build evolves.
Will I need to drill into my truck to install this?
For the vast majority of modern trucks (Tacoma, Tundra, Gladiator, F-150, F-250, Ram, Silverado, etc.), no drilling is required. Our racks hook directly into factory utility bed track systems or use highly secure, heavy-duty clamp mounts around the inside inner-bed lip.
How do I mount third-party accessories (RotopaX, Maxtrax, Quick Fists)?
Because our entire structure is made of standard 15/10-Series T-Slot aluminum extrusions, you aren't forced into buying proprietary parts. Simply slide any standard 5/16" or 1/4" drop-in T-nut into the channel, align your bracket, and bolt it down. It is completely universal.
Do these racks affect fuel efficiency (MPG)?
Any modification that alters your vehicle's factory aerodynamics will impact fuel efficiency slightly. However, using our Low Profile or Mid Height systems keeps your gear streamlined completely behind the cabin glass to minimize drag. Adding our custom laser-cut side MOLLE plates also helps smoothly guide side airflow over your open truck bed on high-speed routes.

Description
Description
The XTR1 Custom Height Bed Rack is the original Xtrusion Overland four-upright aluminum extrusion rack for the Jeep Gladiator. Built with one upright at each corner, the XTR1 gives Jeep Gladiator owners a strong, modular, open-sided rack system for overland travel, work use, daily hauling, and weekend gear.
Unlike fixed sheet-metal racks, the XTR1 is built from T-slot aluminum extrusion so your setup can change as your truck build evolves. Mount rooftop tent accessories, recovery boards, awnings, water storage, fuel cans, bikes, kayaks, ladders, conduit, lumber, and jobsite gear without locking your truck into one permanent layout. Built to mount securely to the Jeep Gladiator bed rails.
What it does
Bolts directly to your Jeep Gladiator’s factory bed rails using the included bedrail brackets. It turns your bed into a fully modular cargo platform: carry a rooftop tent, awning, recovery gear, fuel, and water on top, while keeping the bed underneath free for daily use. Works as a Jeep Gladiator ladder rack, a cargo rack for lumber and conduit, or a no-nonsense overland basecamp — built from solid T-slot aluminum, not flimsy sheet metal.
Built for the Jeep Gladiator
The XTR1 Custom Height is engineered to bolt directly to the Jeep Gladiator’s factory bed rails. The uprights are pre-cut and pre-drilled for a clean, flush mount. It’s not a universal bracket forced to fit — it’s purpose-built for the geometry and rail spacing of the Gladiator.
Why XTR1 is different
The XTR1 is our original four-upright bed rack and the foundation that established the Xtrusion Overland rack system. Its open design provides excellent side access, outstanding accessory compatibility, and a clean layout that’s equally at home on work trucks, overland builds, and daily drivers. It comes with 4 uprights (one in each corner), 2 side braces, 2 top crossbars, and 2 top support braces. Fewer moving parts, lighter weight, and a clean, traditional look that ages well under trail dust and jobsite grime.
- Solid extruded aluminum — the strongest, lightest, most modular material on the market, with no rust and no sacrifice in features.
- T-slot on every linear surface — near-infinite mounting points; mount anything in any position and reconfigure in minutes.
- 4 uprights (one in each corner) — classic, proven load distribution for tents, awnings, recovery gear, and commercial gear.
- Simple, bolt-on mounting — no center columns, no complex adjustability. Just a solid rack that bolts to your bed rails and stays there.
Choose XTR1 if you...
Want more than just a rack. It is the starting point for a modular truck system. Start with the bed rack, then add accessories as your needs change. Depending on your setup, the XTR1 can work with MOLLE panels, AXS Gates, slide-out storage, recovery gear mounts, lighting, water storage, and other rack-mounted accessories.
Because the rack is built around T-slot extrusion, you can continue adapting the layout instead of replacing the entire system as your build grows.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this rack work with a Softopper, FasTop, or Bestop on my Gladiator?
No. The Custom Height XTR1 is designed to bolt to your bed rails, not a topper cover. If you run a canvas-style soft topper, look at our XTR1 Soft Topper Bed Rack or XTR3 Soft Topper Bed Rack instead, both of which are built at a 9° angle to match your topper’s sidewalls.
Does this require drilling into my Gladiator?
No. The rack mounts directly to the factory bed rails using the included bedrail brackets. No permanent modifications, no drilling, and no compromising your factory finish.
